DAMOUCHARI (57 KM from Volos) Damouhari means "for the sake of love" or "give me grace", a prayer for difficult moments of the Venician seamen who lived in the area.
The castle they built protected the storehouse and the only station of the area for tired sailors, from the frequent raids of pirates.
These very storehouses were used by the locals to store the products they traded, until cars reached the numerous villages around and stopped the sailing of the ships into the harbour.
The remains of these buildings, in complete harmony to the landscape add to the beauty of the village.
Cars are kept out of the hamlet, leaving guests to wander freely along the paths which lead to the seaside where the visitor may spend long hours in small tavernas, and couple of cafes fitting completely with the ambience. The swimming in these waters is a unique experience.
